Event and Gift Shop Manager

Job Summary

The Olive Rush Historic Artist Home & Garden, at 630 Canyon Road in Santa Fe, needs a person to manage our public and private events and staff our gift shop during those events. Public events include ticketed art classes, concerts and docent tours of this historic house and garden, as well as by-donation garden teas, open visiting days and art exhibits. Private events – usually held in the garden — include weddings, memorials, life celebrations, graduations and special birthdays. This position also coordinates our event calendar.

Job Schedule and Rate of Pay

This is a part-time, year-round position. It involves some weekend and evening work, and four hours every Friday from about 10 AM to 2 PM for the docent tours, except during January and February.

Pay: $20 an hour. Approximately 15 hours a week, on average.

Background

A passion for art, some experience in retail sales, attraction to Olive Rush as an artist and person, and an interest in the history of the Santa Fe art community are probably the most important background elements for this position.

Position Details

  • Coordinate the Event Calendar

  • Show the space to potential teachers and private event planners

  • Post the events on EventBrite as they are approved

  • Manage the events, from setup to take-down

  • During events, manage the gift shop and record sales and donations

  • Help volunteers manage access to the museum during larger, by-donation events

  • Draft and publish our online Newsletter

  • Other duties as assigned

Skills Needed

  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to help maintain a positive environment and work with diverse people

  • Team-oriented and willing to follow instructions

  • Able to work independently, accept feedback and take initiative

  • Able to manage conflict and communicate tactfully and effectively

  • Able to manage work time effectively and efficiently

  • Able to use computers and software – spreadsheets, word processors, team workspaces, charging systems, and graphic software
