EXPLORE CREATIVITY THROUGH FRAGRANCE: CRAFT SCENTS AND CANDLES WITH US

In a 1943 letter to her friend Ethel Leach, Olive Rush wrote, “Vines hanging heavy with the various kinds of grapes ripening at different times and so fragrant that all the patios and garden are sweet.” It is easy to imagine that Olive Rush took as much inspiration from the aromas and fragrances of her beloved garden as she did the blooms and fruits she cultivated each year. Sweetness in spring and summer, musky and earthy tones from the decay of autumn, crisp and even cold notes in winter.

While fragrance and scent are mediums that we are rarely able to explore as easily as paint, words, or clay, they are a fascinating way to tap into our personal creative minds as well as capture and share the essence of people, places, and memories that we hold dear.

This class is an immersive offering that encourages participants to interact with fragrance as a creative medium. Through a series of exercises that include writing and watercolor, participants will be guided through the process of creating their own fragrances. All participants will use their own fragrances to pour two candles, using non-toxic candle oils and 100% soy wax.

With the holidays just around the corner, participants may consider using this experience to create a one-of-a-kind gift, or a special memorial candle. (Cost: $135 for a three-hour class)

TEACHER: Jessica Demshar, Cerebrus Candle Company Chief Candle Maker.

MATERIALS: All materials are included in the price of enrollment. Participants are encouraged to bring pictures or other items to aid them in evoking a loved one or memory as part of their process. Participants may use Cerberus Candle Company’s embossing label makers to hand punch their own candle labels.

NOTE: Please note that due to the nature of candle wax needing to set, participants will need to pick up their candles from the class location after the class has concluded. Shipping can be arranged for a small additional fee.
